Background
The Training and Development Fund for the Coachbuilding Industry (OOC) aims to make the sector future-proof. The sector comprises companies involved in vehicle repair, coachbuilding and maintenance. OOC supports these organisations with initiatives focused on craftsmanship and sustainable employability. Due to the diversity in working methods, a need arose for greater structure and control over processes. This proved essential to improving collaboration, efficiency and results within the sector, and to enabling it to continue operating with a future-oriented approach.
Within OOC, processes and clear reporting were lacking. This made it difficult to manage operational differences and optimise collaboration. OOC’s regional approach led to varying ways of working, which put pressure on efficiency. Without uniform agreements, it was challenging to route issues effectively. The organisation therefore aimed to harmonise and standardise its working processes in order to operate more effectively and improve reporting.
Process-oriented working
For the improvement programme, OOC engaged BPM Consult. This Leusden-based firm has extensive experience in process management within technical sectors. Together, they developed a new blueprint for process-oriented working. BPM Consult introduced structure to the internal processes and the collaboration with external partners. The approach focused on creating uniform working agreements, improving reporting, and strengthening cooperation within the organisation.
BPM Consult supported OOC in establishing standardised working processes. Efforts were made to enhance internal communication and streamline collaboration with field staff. By documenting processes, OOC gained better control over results. The consultants ensured organisational buy-in, supported the implementation of the new way of working, and helped embed the changes in day-to-day operations.
Results
The new way of working provides greater control over processes and improves collaboration. OOC can now operate more efficiently and respond more quickly to developments within the sector. According to director Jordi Metten, the results are clear: “We now have insight into our processes and are better able to steer results.”
Standardisation contributes to a future-proof sector and strengthens the connection between education, industry and regional partners. In addition to internal improvements, the programme has also had an impact on collaboration with partners. Uniform reporting and working agreements have made communication smoother, increasing the effectiveness of the regional approach.
The new structure makes it possible to deliver tailored solutions without losing overall coherence. OOC sees this as an important step towards sustainable employability, professional development and strengthening the sector as a whole.
Foundation
The process-oriented approach of BPM Consult provides OOC with a solid foundation for the future. Standardisation creates room for innovation and further professionalisation. The organisation is now better able to respond to developments in the sector and changes in policy. The collaboration with BPM Consult has led to a sustainable improvement in the internal organisation, stronger external relationships, and a clear direction for the years ahead within the coachbuilding industry.
OOC will continue to focus on process-oriented working and collaboration with partners. The results of the programme with BPM Consult form the basis for further development. By continuously improving and learning from experience, OOC is building a strong coachbuilding sector. The organisation sees process management as the key to success in a changing industry, where craftsmanship, collaboration and innovation remain central to achieving lasting impact.
